On the first appointment the reflexologist will take your history, which is quite broad. It will cover your lifestyle and health. It is necessary in order to form an individual therapy plan in order to figure out the intensity, which is used on the reflex-zones and points.
During the therapy, more attention is applied to sensitive or out of balance reflexology-zones, although Ingham method covers all zones. Different thumb or finger techniques and pressures are applied, turning and holding feet, in addition some creams or talcum is used on feet. Other tools like therapy stick are not used.
Reflexology is not a massage although it is manual therapy .
For the reflexology session, you do not need to undress yourself; you only need to take off your shoes and socks. After the therapy session, the reflexologist will discuss about the treatment and give some further suggestions. One treatment sessions is about 45 minutes – 1 hour.
However there are situations where reflexology is not suggested. All these contraindications will be clarified when taking the history. For example: when you have a viral infection and one of the symptoms is fever, then reflexology is contraindicated.
Therapy sessions for babies and children are shorter as for adults and for under 16 year old, the therapies are done when parents are present. For pregnant women the therapy is done with gentle pressure and the session is also shorter.
